The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a program based on parent-child interaction therapy for children engaging in disruptive behavior. The subjects were 8 mother-child dyads in an experimental group and 7 mother-child dyads in a comparison group. The Mann-Whitney U-test and the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks Test were performed following the therapeutic program. After application of the Parent-Child Interaction Therapy program, the results indicated that firstly, compared to the control group, the children from the experimental group had significantly reduced levels of disruptive behavior. Secondly, the mothers of the children from the experimental group had significantly increased levels of responsive, effective interactions and deceased levels of directive interactions with their children. The conclusions reached were that Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is an effective program for improving parent-child interaction and brings with it a decrease in disruptive behavior.
