Uncanny Valley(UV) phenomenon is holds that when human replicas look and act almost, but not perfectly, like actual human beings, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers. Likewise, digital characters have a hyper-realistic human face and appearance in CG film. But there can not feel human emotions satisfactory. It’s mean to have some reaction cues that this is not the same as human.
This experiment was conducted in the comparative dimension between action of real actors by motion capture to digital actor. It is four characters seriously falling in It was the perceptual responses experiment through eye gaze of experiment files for the four characters that seriously falling in UV effects in previous studies.
At the scene analysis of the film into digital characters, carried out a detailed analysis of these characters, on the face(facial expression, impression), eye movements, and action, it is hyper-realistic representation, but in these case felt negative cues of human emotion from the too insipid or overkill facial expression in the relationships of emotional reactions and human similarities.
Also in Experiment, the overall average gaze ratio was 34.6% on the eye area in face of real actors, and was 67% on the face in the whole body. And the overall average gaze ratio was 45.5% on the eye area in face of characters, and was 69.4% on the face in the whole body.
In the audience's gaze on the character compared to the live-action actors, it could be high attention ratio on the eye area in face and on the face in the whole body. Therefore during character design and animation production, film makers should be take a careful not to fall in the negative zone of UV effect.
At least, it suggests that they need desirable aesthetic review during filmmaking.
