Serious problem can be caused by limited resource of sensor nodes due to expansion of Wireless Sensor Network and growth of interference from heterogeneous networks. While the nodes are transmitting and receiving wireless data packets via wireless network, if bit error or packet loss occurs due to the congested wireless network environment, the lost packets are retransmitted using ACK or NACK to guarantee reliability.
In this paper, we show that to guarantee reliability, FEC with dividing a frame into blocks not only outperforms but also uses less energy than ARQ that uses retransmission. To achieve this, we compare performance of ARQ and FEC block with TOSSIM the simulator of TinyOS.
