A proverb has a function that its external form and internal meaning are very variable and diverse according to the language environments and the use context. This is a typical feature of oral literature that it is varied to diverse forms according to proverb users. The universal lesson, satire, and metaphor of proverb are just some of numerous functions of proverb. And many functions and features may be showed up according to proverb users. The proverb parodied in has the function as a common langage of the public and has the authority as traditional truth representing various living territories for readers, including excursus writers. Excursus writers borrow appropriate proverbs instead of everyday words to emphasize and communicate their thoughts to readers, and readers communicate with excursus writers each other while accepting the expression through proverbs instead of the direct expression more effectively. If parodists reveal their thoughts, share with the public, and win the sympathy through proverbs by adding their discourse to the original text of the existing proverbs to reproduce it by ‘repetition of difference’, a proverb may be also a new parody strategy. This study has a significance of trying the meaning and function, which proverbs of popular literature are used in the living field of the public, newspaper beyond proverb dictionaries or collections, through parodic approach.
