In this article, I reconsider the style and chronology of the buddhist reliquaries excavated in the stone pagoda of Woljeong-sa temple in Gangwon Province. Here, I argue this reliquary set would have been made in the early eleventh century during the Goryo dynasty, considering the stylistic features of each relic casket and of the whole relic veneration ritual. These reliquaries were found from two relic chambers in the pagoda. In the relic chamber of the fifth floor, a gilt-bronze statue of the buddha was found. In the other relic chamber of the first floor, Buddha’s bodily relic and a dharani sutra as a dharma relic were enshrined together. This enshrinement style of three sacred things prevailed in the Unified Silla Buddhism. However, some objects from this pagoda show the stylistic similarities with those from the relic chamber of Leifeng pagoda in Hangzhou, China, made in the late tenth century. This means the Buddhist cultural exchanges might have existed between them.
