The purpose of this study is to understand the aspects of conflict between wife and husband, and between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law in the folk Songs of Married Life in Korea and Vietnam. To realize this study, the folk Songs of Married Life in Korea and Vietnam in folk songs that show aspects of conflict husband and mother-in-law centered on wife were classified and discussed. However, since these folk songs were sung in the traditional society of the feudal era, a lot of the androcentric consciousness of the patriarchal society was reflected. Therefore, these folk songs were critically discussed from the point of view of Feminism. The summary of the discussion results is presented as follows.
Aspects of conflict between wife and husband in the folk Songs of Married Life in Korea are expressed as disappointment and dissatisfaction due to the irrational marriage system, resentment and resistance to heartless husbands, and mental conflicts over the absence of husbands and their unfortunate fate. Aspects of conflict between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law were identified as the daughter-in-law's runaway and resistance due to inhumane behavior of mother-in-law, daughter-in-law's resistance to the damage to the property of her husband's family, the distrust of the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law's miserable situation, and the misunderstanding about the truth of daughter-in-law. Aspects of conflict between wife with husband in the folk Songs of Married Life in Vietnam are expressed as resentment and frustration over the irrational marriage system, sacrifices of wife to heartless husband, complaints about violent husband, and complaints about husband who were addicted to gambling or alcohol. Aspects of conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law appears as suffering, trials of daughter-in-law before the inhuman behavior of mother-in-law, the daughter-in-law's lamentation about the lack of trust and unpredictable personality of mother-in-law, capricious personality and the daughter-in-law's resistance to mother-in-law's scolding and gossip.
This thesis revealed the irrational and unequal problems that women experienced in traditional society by examining the conflict between the wife with husband and mother-in-law in the folk Songs of Married Life from a critical point of view. Hoping that this thesis will help to understand women and resolve discrimination and help reevaluate the role of women in modern society.
