This study aims to research on the vein of humor and sarcastic characteristics revealed on genre paintings of Yoon-Bok, Shin, one of the most well-known genre painters of the late Joseon Dynasty.
This study examines the value and feature of vein of humor and sarcastic characteristics revealed on gerne paintings of Yoon-Bok, Shin based on the very meaning of sarcastic characteristics of academic values of genre paintings, which were created and developed with dramatic and various realistic situations of the late Joseon Dynasty, when Realist School of Confucianism and Common People's Culture were richly brought up due to economic structural changes caused by changing social hierarchy.
Also, this study analyses the meaning and the value of humorous and sarcastic aesthetical senses divided into composition, color, theme and technique of expression as well as the great status as a gerne painter and huge influence on future generations of independent and individual style of Yoon-Bok, Shin.
Furthermore, this study surveys new opportunities for modern Korean paintings influenced by his great artistic spirit in consideration of his keen criticism and independent aesthetic sense which were far ahead of the time.
