This study explores how to represent the Jangsa Landing Operation and what its implications are based on the cases of the museum 〈The Jangsa Landing Operation Victory Memorial Hall〉 and the film 〈Battle of Jangsari〉. To undertake this research question, this study analyzed the narrative of the Jangsa Landing Operation as presented by the museum and the film based on the concepts of Todorov's integrated schema and Levi Strauss's binary opposition. Furthermore, it discussed how the relevant texts signify "nation" by applying Althusser's symptomatic reading.
The study found that 〈The Jangsa Landing Operation Victory Memorial Hall〉 and 〈Battle of Jangsari〉 superficially specifying that the "victory of the operation" and its heroes, "student soldiers" must be remembered. However, from an in-depth dimensional perspective, the "nationalistic narrative" through the student soldiers' bravery and dedication was being emphasized. Throughout these representation processes, it was confirmed that the discourse practices of "victimhood nationalism" and the sublimation of damage, "soft nationalism" and nostalgic sensitivity, and "commercialized nationalism" and memory industry were being performed. Ultimately, this study criticized the fact that the representation of the Jangsa Landing Operation was taking place to strengthen a common sense of nationalism.
