Introduction
Because of the nature of their work, workers in medical institutions are exposed to the contaminated environment due to cross-infection because of the high frequency of close contact with infected patients. In particular, since COVID-19 has the characteristics of low pathogenicity and high contagiousness, it is more and more necessary to perform appropriate infection control in medical institutions to suppress the spread of COVID-19. Healthcare workers are not only at high risk of contracting COVID-19, but also play a central role in performing infection control in medical institutions. have the responsibility to perform Among the many factors that influence the management of emerging infectious diseases, it is necessary to properly deal with the disease and perform proper infection control in response to the epidemic prevention and control measures of medical institution workers.
Research subjects & methods
Based on the number of medical institution workers, Incheon Metropolitan City population, and the national population, the subjects of the study were COVID-19 confirmed cases from January 2020 to March 2022.
The number of hospital staff and Incheon Metropolitan City population collected by the safety and health team for hospital data, and the number of national population collected by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was investigated based on the data collected by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).
The factors for the increase in the number of confirmed cases were investigated.
Results
Hand hygiene (washing or disinfecting hands) must be performed before and after patient treatment as a precautionary measure for infection prevention by medical staff, and medical staff who treat or nurse patients must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
It must be performed in a qualified medical institution.
Since COVID-19 is spread through person-to-person contact and it is also possible to spread through aerosols, the risk of infection increases as the denser and enclosed indoor space increases, so patients should be treated in a negative pressure room.
As such, the importance of ventilation facilities and the importance of hand washing and wearing a mask for thorough personal hygiene management were emphasized.
Conclusion
It was confirmed that the spread of infectious diseases can be reduced by wearing personal protective equipment called a mask as a way to prevent infectious diseases due to the worldwide spread of COVID-19 It was confirmed that not only the wearing of personal protective equipment but also the practice of hand hygiene occupies an important part.
Medical institutions should strive to positively influence the performance of infection prevention practices through system improvement and monitoring activities for infection prevention, education and training, and establishment of a safe culture in hospitals.
