The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of grit in the effect of parenting attitudes on children's emotional-behavioral problems.
The research questions for verification of research purposes are as follows.
1. Examine the correlation between parenting attitude, children's grit, and children's emotional-behavioral problems.
2. Examine the effect of parenting attitude on children's grit.
3. Examine the effect of parenting attitude on children's emotional-behavioral problems.
4. Examine the mediating effect of children's grit in the relationship between parenting attitude and children's emotional-behavioral problems.
To verify the questions, this study used the 4th grade elementary school panel among the 3rd data of 2020 which is collected through the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) performed by National Youth Policy Institute.
The analysis results of the research problem are as follows.
1. In the correlation with parenting attitude, children's grit, and children's emotional-behavioral problems, all emotional-behavioral problems (attention concentration, aggression, social atrophy, depression) were positively correlated with rejection, coercion, and chaos of parenting attitude. There was a negative correlation with the warmth of parenting attitude, autonomy support, structure and it was also found that there was a significant negative correlation with grit.
2. As for the effect of parenting attitude on children's grit, it was found that the consistency of parenting attitude, autonomy support, coercion, and structure had a significant influence on grit in order.
3. In the effect of parenting attitudes on emotional-behavioral problems, it was found that parenting attitudes had a significant influence on emotional-behavioral problems in order of rejection, chaos, rescue provision, and warmth.
4. In the relationship between parenting attitude, children's emotional-behavioral problems and children's grit was found to partially mediate the relationship between parenting attitude and emotional-behavioral problems.
To sum up, parenting attitude and emotional problems have a significant positive correlation and children's grit partially mediates between parenting attitude and children's emotional-behavioral problems.
