The usefulness of shear walls in high-rise building has been recognized. Shear walls are designed to support whole weight of constructions and resist horizontal force from wind or earthquake.
SHCC(Strain harding Cementitious Composite) has been developed recently. It is a fiber-reinforced concrete and has characteristic such as strain harding, high ductility of about 2-3% and micro multiple crack under tensile stress. Characteristics of SHCC are improved the performance of RC members under lateral load.
In this research, Concrete materials used SHCC(Strain harding Cementitious Composite) in RC(Reinforced Concrete) shear walls. we tried to identify the performance of developed shear wall. Specimens were only considered gravity load and designed and detailed in compliance to KCI-2012.
Based on the loading experiment results, this study was found that the developed shear walls showed improved strength than RC shear wall in controlling bending and shear crack. The developed shear wall with minimum shear reinforcement increased the more strength than RC wall with nominal shear reinforcement. RC shear walls using SHCC are expected to enhance the durability and the effectiveness of structures as well to cut the construction cost due to reduce the amount of reinforcement in comparison with RC shear walls.
