Increasing attention to various environmental problems such as climate change, water pollution and air pollution has researched to encourage people's behaviors pro-environmentally. The thesis was conducted to understand the effect of a university environment education on the accumulation of environment knowledges, the state of pro-environmental attitude and the willingness to act pro-environmental behaviors.
University students who were environment majors showed higher positive effects than students of the control group who are not environment majors on environment activities. Cause a university environment education was a promising process to learn physical knowledge about CO₂ and the greenhouse effect. But it was not found that the effect of a university environment education on knowledge concerning causes and expected consequences of climate change. And that erroneous understanding of knowledge concerning pro-environmental behavior appeared in all respondents.
All the respondents appeared higher attitudinal variables such as concern about climate change and feeling of powerlessness. Where the respondents who had a university environment education appeared rather high skepticism about climate-change because they did not accept the information simply conducted by scientists. It could be described negative correlation between university environment educations and skepticism.
A university environment education showed the positive effect on pro-environmental behavior in the case of low cost-indirect activities. Except the case with the heavy economic burden, willingness to accept policy measure was strongly related to physical knowledge about CO₂ and the greenhouse effect.
The thesis emphasized that a university environment education should be recognized as a critical element to act pro-environmental behaviors, though a university environment education did not show a perfect effect to all pro-environmental behaviors. Therefore the program of university environment educations should be developed with considering the knowledge and willingness of university students on pro-environment behavior changes.
