The purpose of this study is the effect of parent-adolescent communication on adolescent sexual attitude and behavior.
After studying literatures on parent-adolescent communication and on adolescents' sexual attitude and behaviors, data were collected from 382 students in four schools by using questionnaires. Through SPSS-WIN 12.0, frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, regression analysis, correlation were performed.
In summary, the results of this study were as follows.
First, sexual attitude was shown a significant difference according to gender. In other words, boys than girls were shown to have distorted, unethical, and open sexual attitude.
Second, according to background variables, sexual attitudes were significantly different depending on the degree of exposure to pornography. In other words, the group with high exposure to pornography was found to have more distorted unethical, open sexual attitude than the group with low exposure to pornography
Third, the parent-adolescent communication styles was not significantly different according to adolescents' sexual attitude.
Fourth, sexual behavior was shown a significant difference according to gender. In other words, boys than girls were shown to have more sexual behavior.
Fifth, according to background variables, sexual behavior were significantly different depending on sexual knowledge, the degree of exposure to pornography and experience of dating. In other words, the earlier age of contacting sexual knowledge or the more frequent exposure to pornography and having experience of dating, the more sexual behavior they had.
Sixth, according to the parent-adolescent communication styles, sexual behavior were significantly different depending on communication with parents. In other words, the more negative and problematic communication with parents, the more sexual behavior they had.
This study reconfirmed that gender, degree of exposure to pornography, negative and problematic communication were variables which could affect adolescents' sexual attitude and behavior. Also this study could provide basic materials for consulting and guidance in school and home.
Therefore, specific program, based on this study, which educate adolescent and parents not only to establish sound sexual attitude but also to make adolescent do responsible behavior, should be provided.
