Heat treatment is an essential process to improve the properties of the mechanical parts which are critical to the performance of the products.
In modern industries, the global environment is as critical factor a as the high technology, which is also the case of the heat treatment industry. The general requirements in heat treatment is the demand for the less deformation, improved strength and the less consumption of energy. But the modern trend put more emphasis on the clean process with reduced generation of CO₂.
The gas carburization is one of the most popular environment-friendly surface heat treatments, which is supposed to have low efficiency, inferior working conditions and considerable pollutions. In this study, the vacuum carburization has been investigated to solve those problems and provide the sound way of the surface heat treatment.
Several processes have been reviewed and the results have been compared to find the effect of the variation of the carburization processes.
